And the rains came

Four AM.  The rain came.  Hard and fast.  Wind driven, like sheets of laundry hung to dry.  Sheets, wind driven, clinging to imaginary lines with old, weathered wooden clothes pins.  The rain came and went all within ten minutes.  Cleaned the air and left the laundry dripping with fresh rain from every tiny tree branch.

Getting Organized

I have taken on another project class!  Getting Organized.  It is a six week course, and I am already defeated by the time line!!!  LOL!  I am creating a studio from our small dining room and with two room doors and a patio door it will be a real challenge.  See my facebook profile for latest before pictures.

Di Was Just Thinking...

Yes, I actually do think on occasion!  Interesting, I thought that occasion had another 's' in it.
Oh well.  Moving on.  I was just out picking black rasberries this afternoon.  The breeze was just enough to be refreshing and keep the insects away.  I got 2 cups of berries yesterday and about 4 cups today.  They are delicious with NOOSA yogurt.  MMMMMM!  Thank you Mrs. Evans where ever you are.
This got me thinking about when we were kids and there were wild black rasberries back of the chicken house on the home place.  They were so good.  Warm with the summer sun, juicy and ripe.  They were so tempting that only about half of them made it to the house.  Good thing there were lots of them!!!  It didn't matter then that it was hotter than hot and humid.  Rasberry scratches were a badge of honor to me back then.
No matter where you go or what you do, if you let your thoughts drift, something will trigger a memory from home.  Remember those to tell your grandchildren and great grandchildren,  Oral history is so important.  Even more important today than earlier, because children are so caught up in all their activities and electronic devices that they are forgetting how to carry on a conversation.

Rust

July 3, 2011

This is part of my collection of rusty objects which I have been collecting for 30 odd years.  It is just irresistible to see a piece of rust on the ground.  To not pick it up and take it home would be almost sinful!
So today I gathered this collection together.  I was surprised at the accumulation.  And very pleased, as well!  So this is my first creative act in my plan to create something every week for a year. July seemed like a good place in time to begin.
I have it all laid out on the slate covered picnic table in the back yard with my second favorite collection in view.  My blue bottle garden!

It seemed appropriate to begin with the title of my year of creating.  "RUST"

Since this is not a long lasting art piece this is the only documentation of the piece.  I enjoyed doing this so much.  I have all week to decide what to do with rusty metal for the second piece.  Maybe something more permanent next time,
Aside from creating my first piece I also learned how to add pictures to my blog.  Two things in one day!  Life is good!

I was just thinking today about the talent that surrounds us in our small communities.  Caretakers, caregivers, writers, artists, builders, roofers, painters, conversationalists, comfort givers, advisers. Spell checkers!  Teachers and students, the problem solvers, storytellers, the creative thinkers, those who live outside the box. Then there are the bakers and cooks, the cleaners and mowers, those who take care of our community historical buildings, and keep our community coffee going every Tuesday.  Those who give spiritual strength, friends, mathematicians, (not me) and those wonderful tech people who can just fix things that I screw up on the computers and make it sound sooooo very easy!!  Those with the patience to keep their cool.  Parents who cherish their children.  For these and all other talents I have not mentioned, I give my thanks.  If you think of some more talents, list them in the comment box.  I am going out to find some talent!
109 degrees today and stifling! Had a wonderful summer reading program at the library today.  Lots of eager kids!  Tripped to Japan on butterfly wings.  I have a really great library associate!  Nothing I like better than to see young people eager to learn.
